Best Time To Visit Georgia: Weather, Wine and Festivals

One of the questions I get asked the most when I post about Georgia is:
“When is the best time to visit?”
And honestly? Georgia is one of those rare countries where every season offers something special.  Here’s my complete guide to choosing the best time to visit Georgia, based on weather, wine, and cultural events.

Understanding Georgia’s Climate (Quick Overview)Georgia has a surprisingly diverse climate for a small country:
  • Warm summers
  • Mild springs and autumns
  • Snowy winters in the mountains
  • Subtropical coast along the Black Sea
Because landscapes change so dramatically — from vineyards to glaciers — the “best time” really depends on how you want to experience Georgia.

Spring (April–June): Best for Sightseeing & Nature Lovers Spring is when Georgia wakes up.

Why visit in spring:
  • Ideal weather for walking tours in Tbilisi
  • Blooming valleys and alpine meadows
  • Great time for photography
  • Fewer tourists than summer
Weather:
  • April: 10–18°C
  • May–June: 18–25°C
Spring is perfect if you want a balanced trip — culture, nature, food, and wine without the heat or crowds.

Summer (July–August): Mountains, Sea & Festivals. Summer in Georgia can be hot, especially in cities and wine regions, but it’s also when the country feels most alive.
Locals escape to the mountains or the Black Sea coast, and so should you.
Best summer experiences:
  • Hiking in Kazbegi, Svaneti, and Racha
  • Beach time in Batumi and along the coast
  • Outdoor music and cultural festivals
  • High-energy nightlife in Tbilisi and Batumi
Weather:
  • Cities: 28–35°C
  • Mountains: cooler and refreshing
If you don’t mind the heat and love social energy, summer is a great choice — just plan mountain regions during the day.

Autumn (September–October): Wine Season & Golden LandscapesIf I had to pick one perfect season to visit Georgia, this would be it.
Autumn is wine season — and in Georgia, wine is culture, history, and celebration all rolled into one.
Why autumn is magical:
  • Rtveli (grape harvest) in Kakheti
  • Wine festivals and village feasts
  • Golden vineyards and forests
  • Warm days, cool evenings
Weather:
  • September: 22–28°C
  • October: 15–22°C
This is the best time for wine tours, food lovers, and slow travel. You’ll experience Georgia at its most authentic.

Winter (December–February): Snow, Skiing & Cozy CitiesWinter is quieter, colder, and incredibly atmospheric.
While some mountain roads close, ski resorts come alive, and cities feel cozy rather than crowded.
Best winter activities:
  • Skiing in Gudauri, Bakuriani, Mestia
  • Winter festivals and Christmas markets
  • Sulfur baths in Tbilisi
  • Snowy mountain villages
Weather:
  • Cities: 0–8°C
  • Mountains: heavy snow, perfect for skiing
Winter is ideal if you love snow sports or want a more intimate, budget-friendly trip.

Best Time to Visit Georgia for Wine Lovers 🍷Hands down: September and October
This is when:
  • Grapes are harvested
  • Qvevri wine is made in family cellars
  • Supra (traditional feasts) happen naturally
  • Wine villages are at their most welcoming
You don’t just taste wine — you experience it.

Best Time to Visit Georgia for Festivals 🎉Georgia’s festival calendar is closely tied to seasons and traditions:
  • May–June: Cultural and music festivals
  • July–August: Open-air concerts and mountain festivals
  • September–October: Wine harvest celebrations
  • December–January: New Year and Orthodox Christmas events
If festivals matter to you, late summer and autumn are unbeatable.

So… When Is the Best Time To Visit Georgia? Here’s the honest blogger answer:
  • Best weather: May–October
  • Best for wine: September
  • Best for hiking: June–September
  • Best for skiing: January–February
Georgia isn’t a one-season destination. It’s a country you can return to — and fall in love with differently each time.

No matter when you visit, Georgia greets you with open doors, full tables, and unforgettable landscapes. Choose your season based on what you love most — sunshine, snow, wine, or festivals — and Georgia will do the rest.
